The fuel injector is a integral component of diesel engines as it is responsible for the injection of fuel into the combustion chamber and subsequently influences the combustion process. The fuel injector is responsible for the atomization process for the fuel and the presence of cavitation in the injector nozzles will influence the atomization process. Over the last decades there have been a increasing focus on emission from diesel engines and strong regulations have forced the industry to invest in research on how to optimize the fuel consumption and power output. Commercial CFD based software ANSYS-Fluent used to capture cavitation in fuel injector nozzle and parametric study has been perform to investigate effect of cavitation on fuel flow rate from nozzle outlet. It is found that Fluent can predict cavitation and results are in good agreement with experimental data.

This paper presents the reduction of Sand Inclusion casting defect which occurs at different locations in motor stator housing casting of gray cast iron. Either a single cause or multiple causes may be responsible for this defect. This defect was the major cause of rejection in a medium scale foundry. Gating system fault was identified as one of the major causes responsible for defect. In this paper, two suggestions were proposed and implemented to reduce Sand Inclusion casting defect; i.e. to provide skim bob in gating system, and to mix 10% new sand during each cycle of sand preparation. Outcome of production trial shown considerable reduction in Sand Inclusion casting defect.

The predicted shortage of fossil fuels has encouraged the search for substitutes for petroleum derivative. This search has resulted in an alternative fuel called Bio-diesel .In this study a four stroke IC diesel engine and jetropha Bio-diesel is considered. Matlab code was programmed with the pre-defined formulas for different blends of Bio-diesel. Load, Engine specifications, calorific value and density of fuel were taken as inputs. Brake power, Brake thermal efficiency and Brake specific fuel consumption were obtained outputs. Finally, Outputs for all the blend are compared to obtain the best operating point. The study shows that the obtained result matches to the experimental result and the Matlab code can be used to predict the best operating point
